About the Publication
Encyclopaedia Londinensis
The Encyclopaedia Londinensis was one of the great British encyclopaedic works of the early 19th century, published by John Wilkes between 1796 and 1829 in twenty-four volumes. Its natural history plates — engraved after drawings by Albertus Seba and other leading naturalists — are among the finest scientific illustrations of the period. The shell plates in particular are celebrated for their precision and elegance, depicting murices, aporrhais, cones, volutes, and other marine specimens with remarkable fidelity.
We carry a rotating selection of shell plates from this publication. Subjects and availability change as new pieces come through the gallery. Contact us to inquire about specific specimens or to be notified when new plates arrive.
