L'Ornement Polychrome

Albert-Charles-Auguste Racinet (1825–1893) was a French ornamentalist and chromolithographer whose monumental L'Ornement Polychrome (Paris, 1869–1873) is one of the supreme achievements of 19th-century decorative printing. Published in two series comprising 100 folio plates, the work surveys ornamental design from antiquity through the Renaissance and beyond, rendered in brilliant polychrome chromolithography heightened with gold and silver. The plates are among the most visually spectacular examples of the chromolithographic art ever produced.
